Terms of Use

These terms apply to your use of Albany Residents Directory. By using the reference, you agree to them. Do not use it if you do not accept these conditions.

1. About This Reference

Albany Residents Directory is a privately operated reference to public rolls, record indexes, and historical directory collections connected with Albany, Alameda County, and California. It links to sources such as the Alameda County Clerk-Recorder, the county assessor, the Superior Court of California, and Albany city offices, but it hosts no government record and is not affiliated with any custodian.

2. Lawful Use Rules

Use the reference only for lawful, responsible research. California Penal Code §646.9 addresses stalking, and Penal Code §530.5 addresses unlawful use of personal identifying information. You may not use the reference or anything reached through it to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm any person
  • Locate someone protected by a restraining or protective order
  • Commit identity theft or fraud
  • Make FCRA-regulated decisions involving credit, employment, tenant, or insurance matters
  • Scrape, reproduce, or republish the content systematically
  • Disrupt the operation or security of the reference

3. No Consumer Reporting Agency

Albany Residents Directory is not a consumer reporting agency as that term is defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. Neither the material here nor a result from a linked search tool is a consumer report, and neither may be used to evaluate eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another purpose covered by the FCRA.

4. External Services

Alameda County portals, California agencies, libraries, courts, and third-party services, including sponsored search tools, set their own terms and privacy practices. Albany Residents Directory does not control their content, availability, charges, or handling of submitted data.

5. No Warranties

The reference is supplied "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. We do not promise that a page is accurate, complete, or current, or that a linked portal will remain available or return a correct result.

6. Liability Limits

To the fullest extent allowed by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or similar damages arising from use of this reference or a linked resource, including a decision based on a record located through it.

7. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold the operators harmless from claims or demands, including reasonable attorneys' fees, that arise from your misuse of the reference or breach of these terms.

8. Intellectual Property

The original writing, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. You may link to a page and quote a short excerpt with attribution. Republishing full pages or copying the content in a systematic way is not permitted.

9. Revisions

We may revise these terms by posting an updated version here. Continued use after the revision is posted constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

10. Access Restrictions

Access may be blocked or limited for a user who violates these terms or abuses the reference. The operators may take that step at their discretion and without advance notice.

11. Governing Law

California law governs these terms without regard to conflict-of-law principles. The California Public Records Act, Government Code §§7920.000 et seq., supplies the rules for requesting existing, reasonably described public records from an agency such as the City of Albany. It does not turn this private reference into a public agency or records custodian. The California Attorney General’s CPRA overview provides state-level background.

12. Severability

If a court finds one provision unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
